SCREENPLAY

[ YEAR 2013 ]

1) INT. BED ROOM - AFTERNOON

Beside dressing table, Vinita is sitting on a bean bag with her diary and a pen. She is sliding the pen in between her fingers. Pen ball goes near to the dairy page, touches the page and comes up without writing anything. Only one ink dot is visible on the page. Vinita looks angry and disturbed. She thinks for sometime, then hesitantly writes incomplete sentence

LIFE IS ALL ABOUT SOMEONE’S PAST…

and continues looking into it emotionlessly.

2) INT. BED ROOM - AFTERNOON

Vinita is sitting in her bed room on the same bean bag. She has the diary and pen in her hand. Vikas slowly enters into her room with an unhappy look and sits on the other bean bag near Vinita.

VINITA

Baby, come here.

Come to Mom!

Vinita spreads her hands and takes Vikas on her laps.

VINITA

Where were you till now?

VIKAS

Where else?

In my room!

VINITA

And what was my baby doing

In his room?

VIKAS (after a silence)

Mom, shall I tell you something?

VINITA

Why something, My Vikas baby will tell me 100 things.

VIKAS

Papa told you in the morning, first thing after coming back from shopping.

You didn’t listen!

VINITA

Did he? I couldn’t hear.

I must have, if it was louder!

VIKAS

Mom, Papa told…

But you didn’t listen.

You don’t listen anything when you’re angry!

You didn’t even listen to me.

Vikas starts crying.

3) INT. DRAWING ROOM - MORNING

Akash comes back to home after shopping. He has couple of bags full of vegetables, groceries, milks, curds, eggs, puja flower, etc hanging in his fingers. He enters into the drawing room by opening the door pushing by his left leg. He keeps the bags inside the kitchen and tells to his wife Vinita

AKASH

Vini, couple of eggs may be cracked.

Please take out the eggs first,

Or else everything will be dirty!

The drawing room TV was on and some music channel was running songs in high volume. Vinita was busy preparing apple shake in her mixi. She doesn't concentrate on his talk and continues making the shake. Akash comes out of the kitchen and sits on the sofa in front of the TV. He changes the channel and starts watching a movie. His son Vikas comes out from kitchen and sits with Akash in front of him on sofa and starts watching TV. Akash gently starts running his fingers in Vikas's hair.

VIKAS

Papa, you know my friend Anik,

He was telling me to join him for watching cartoon!

Shall I go Papa?

AKASH

Ok. But not now…

Now Viku will read news paper with Papa!

VIKAS (smiles)

Yes papa…

Vikas gets up and brings the newspaper. While coming back towards Akash, he starts reading the front page tile of the article about the gay IPC 377.

“SC Makes Homosexuality A Crime Again”

He comes to Akash and sits near him along with the newspaper.

VIKAS

What’s SC, Papa?

AKASH

Supreme Court.

VIKAS

and homosexuality?

AKASH

This is adult topic.

Lets read sports news…

VIKAS

Why adult?

News paper for everyone, isn’t it!

AKASH

Hmmm…

Then you only tell…

VIKAS

I know sexuality,

It means gender.

But what is homo?

Human being?

Homo sapiens?

AKASH (smile)

Well said,

Something like that!

VIKAS

Then why crime?

AKASH

Homosexuality means love between two same gender people.

VIKAS

Why so,

How come love will be crime, Papa?

I love Anik, is that a crime then?

AKASH

You two are young now.

This law is for adults!

VIKAS

Ok suppose, Anik and I,

Grown up,

And still love each other.

then?

4)EXT.COLLEGE CAMPUS - DAY

Two young college students (gay couple) are walking in college campus. They are walking holding each other’s hand. They are happily talking and heading towards their class.

5)INT.DRAWING ROOM - MORNING

AKASH

You two are good friends,

Definitely will love each other.

Homosexuality is a bit different relation.

VIKAS

Different means?

AKASH

Suppose, Your Mom and I,

Living together as a family.

similarly, if two boy,

or two girl…

VIKAS

If they live together?

In the same house?

6)INT.SMALL ROOM - MORNING

Same two young college students (gay couple). Living in a small room. One is preparing breakfast and the other one is neatly folding their dresses and under garments.

Both finishes their work and have breakfast together in the small table near the window. They show care and compassionate love for each other through their actions while having breakfast.

7)INT.DRAWING ROOM - MORNING

VIKAS

But what’s wrong in that?

AKASH

Nothing wrong!

Loving someone,

Lovingly living with someone,

Cannot be wrong ever.

VIKAS

then?

Why is supreme court telling crime?

AKASH

Living together or loving is not crime, papa.

Homosexuality is a crime.

Attraction between two same gender people is a crime!

VIKAS

But I’ve seen in TV,

Ataction is always between two opposite gender people!

AKASH

It’s not ataction.

It’s attraction.

VIKAS

Attraction.

AKASH

Correct,

But some people get attracted to the same gender.

VIKAS

But that’s against nature,

Isn’t it?

AKASH

No, that’s not true.

It’s written in our Rig-ved

“Vikriti Evam Prakriti”

that means,

Whatever we think unnatural,

that too are natural.

Everything is God’s own creation.

VIKAS

Is Supreme Court then bigger than God, papa?

AKASH (smile)

It’s not about bigger or smaller, dear.

It’s about sacrificing individual need

For the sake of social need!

VIKAS

ok papa, suppose,

two girls or two boys,

stays together.

As they want,

Like wife-wife or husband-husband,

But don’t disturb anyone…

Then what’s the problem with society?

8) INT. SMALL ROOM – EARLY MORNING

Same two young college students (gay couple). Living in a small room. Sleep under same quilt. Get up from the bed together.

Both of them having same gay tatu (pink triangle inside a heart shape) permanently printed on their back side shoulder.

They smile at each other and start daily activities. One opens the window and the other one goes towards the door.

9) INT. DRAWING ROOM - MORNING

AKASH (falsely justifies)

It’s not about disturbing anyone.

It’s about Social structure.

Otherwise also,

Wife-wife or husband-husband

Cannot have baby,

Isn’t it?

VIKAS

That’s true!

But grandmom told,

It’s written in Krittivas Ramayana that

After the death of Maharaja Dilipa,

His two wives had baby,

By the grace of Lord Shiva!

AKASH (surprised by the knowledge)

yes,

King Bhagiratha.

Who bought Ganga river on earth.

VIKAS

And we’ve so much of population,

It’s good to not have more babies!

AKASH (smile)

That’s not the way to control birth!

VIKAS

But yes,

It would have been big fights,

If two boys stay together.

Anik and I fight so much now only,

Image what will happen when we’ll grow up…

10) INT. SMALL ROOM – LATE EVENING

Same two young college students (gay couple), come back home from college canteen after chatting with other friends. While changing their dresses and wearing comfortable home dresses, they (fair and dark complexion, Arnab and Akash) start arguing for paying extra attention to the other guy and girl respectively. Arnab, being little shy, changing in the room and Akash is changing in the drawing room.

Shortly the argument hits up and they start fighting with each other with full strength. Fighting stops only after one gets injured with a bleeding nose.

YOUNG AKASH

What is there to get angry on me?

Did I say anything wrong?

What kind of dress did Trina Wear?

What assets does today’s so called modern girls

want to show by wearing such tight dresses?

Will it look descent or gentle,

If now guys also start showing their asset

By wearing tight pants?

ARNAB

Did I say anything about the talk?

It wouldn't be a problem if it was only talk!

YOUNG AKASH

What do you mean?

ARNAB

Don’t you really understand?

When you’re so  desperate,

Then you can hold the umbrella on her head

All day long!

YOUNG AKASH

Oh…

You’re over reacting!

ARNAB

Am I?

Why you’re so concerned

If something had fallen on her?

Either a leaf,

Or an umbrella,

Or an insect!

YOUNG AKASH

Why shall I be concerned?

I was just…

ARNAB

What just?

His boyfriend was there to help her?

Did you notice when such a big tree branch

Had fallen on me…

YOUNG AKASH

On you? When?

ARNAB

Did you have time

To care for me?

YOUNG AKASH

Don’t talk nonsense!

Did it fall on you, huh?

ARNAB

Didn’t fall, but you wouldn’t have

Notice it anyway!

YOUNG AKASH

You’re now fighting with me

For an imaginary ‘if’!

And you think I didn’t notice

You were hitting on Tulip’s brother!

ARNAB

My wish…

YOUNG AKASH

What does that mean?

ARNAB

As I said, my wish…

YOUNG AKASH

Don’t you find a better answer?

ARNAB

No, I don't!

YOUNG AKASH

Then why do you come to talk?

(Whispering)

just carbon copy of father!

ARNAB

What did you say?

YOUNG AKASH

Nothing!

ARNAB

Say it again…

YOUNG AKASH

Did I say any wrong?

ARNAB

Is it?

Then, take it…

Arnab kicks a punch on Akash’s nose. Akash holds his nose and turns on the other side and sees bleeding on his palm. He doesn’t day a word to Arnab and goes to the bathroom to clean the nose and blood.

Arnab realizes his mistake and goes to say sorry and help him out. He throws Arnab outside and closes the door from inside and opens the water tap.

Arnab continues knocking the door and requests him to open and show him his nose.

ARNAB

I’m sorry kaashu,

I didn’t realize.

Please…

Akash comes out of the bathroom, he uncovers his hand to show that nothing happened to his nose and hugs Arnab tightly.

11) INT. DRAWING ROOM - MORNING

VIKAS

Mom and you don’t fight at all!

Ok Papa, tell me,

Same gender people who are not able to marry

Because of the Supreme court,

What will they do?

AKASH

What can they do?

Think, one boy and one girl sometime

Cannot get married because of some reason.

What do they do?

VIKAS

Hmmm, that's true.

But will it not be painful for them

To stay apart?

AKASH

obviously.

But sometime it’s difficult to understand,

Which one is more painful?

Staying apart?

Or, staying with someone else?

VIKAS

What Papa?

AKASH

No, nothing!

VIKAS

ok Papa, this is a government rule,

isn’t it?

AKASH

Hmmm, why?

VIKAS

Will there be concession for SC/ST then?

AKASH (laugh)

SC/ST discount, huh…

Their conversation and pampering goes on while Vinita runs her mixer to make apple shake. Vinita enters into the drawing room with two glasses of apple shake and gives to both of them.

VINITA

Intellectualism!

Such a heart touching topic

To discuss with son!

AKASH

Vini, what is this!

I was just…

VINITA

Hypocrite!

Did you bring everything?

AKASH

yes… Brought one freshener too.

VINITA (with satire)

ok, lets see if you bring one pink color local made bottle, like last time!

Vinita leaves the drawing room and enters into kitchen to keep groceries and vegetables in place.

VINITA

Lemme see what you’ve got.

Akash and Vikas start drinking the shake and continue chatting in front of the TV. Vinita takes out the vegetables and groceries one by one and starts keeping into refrigerator and modular cupboards.

VINITA

What had you done?

AKASH (from drawing room)

Why? What happened??

VINITA (satire)

What else, shopkeeper recognized you correctly!

Gave you rotten potatoes!

AKASH

Don’t talk rubbish!

Bought less as there weren’t good potatoes.

VINITA

why?

Other shopkeepers don't sell you potatoes, huh?

Akash doesn't say anything else; he keeps quite and finishes his drink. Vikas takes a sip from her glass and continues watching TV. Vinita starts segregating groceries from the bag. Everything, vegs and grocery packets, look wet and smelling badly. She takes out the paper bag looks completely wet from outside and finds four cracked eggs inside. She quickly takes out the eggs. Her both hands messed up with the egg while and a yolk falls onto the puja flower. By seeing her face anyone can make out how many eggs got cracked.

VINITA (with anger)

Akash, come here.

AKASH

What happened again?

Vinita doesn't wait for Akash to come to the kitchen. She comes in front of Akash with the paper bag and stands in between TV and Akash.

VINITA

What happened? What is this?

Akash looks at the paper bag and sees the cracked eggs. He keeps quite and looks at Vinita.

VINITA

Couldn’t you bring those eggs carefully today?

AKASH

Couple of eggs only!

Why are you reacting like this?

VINITA

Why don't you have shame?

Am I worried for cracked eggs?

Flowers and fruits all gone bad,

Shall I mix all these and fry for you?

AKASH

But first thing I told you while entering into the…

VINITA

Cut the crap!

Priest will come in any moment,

how shall I arrange everything…

During the whole time Vikas was sitting on the sofa, silently. He was little afraid and uncomfortable. His eyes were filled with tears when he comes to Vinita.

VIKAS

Mom, Papa told you that…

VINITA

How many times did I tell you

Not to interfere in adults conversation!

Vikas started crying and left the drawing room. He takes stairs towards his room. Vinita continues scolding her husband and dials a number from her mobile and talks to the purohit.

VINITA

Hello, priest…

12) INT. BED ROOM - AFTERNOON

VINITA

Listen to me baby.

VIKAS

Mom, please you listen. Do you remember, the day Papa bought chicken kebab and you had burnt everything while warming up. Papa didn’t say anything that day.

VINITA

Yes, I do remember.

VIKAS

But you didn’t notice Mom,

Papa came back home directly after picking me up from school.

That’s why he didn’t get time to have lunch.

VINITA

Papa didn’t have lunch!

Why didn’t you tell me? This is bad, your Papa too didn’t say me anything!

VIKAS

I know Mom.

Papa only asked me not to tell you because he didn’t want to hurt you.

Both of them keep quite for a while. Vikas looks at Vinita.

VINITA

Your Papa is good only,

I’m not bad either!

but…

VIKAS

You know Mom, I love you...

VINITA (wet eyes)

I know baby!

VIKAS

But you know what?

Tears roll down from his eyes, Vinita looks right into Vikas’s eyes to hear his next word.

VIKAS (crying)

I’ll become bad, one day!

Vikas bursts in cry. She gets up from her mom's lap and leaves the room immediately. Speechless and shocked Vinita, sitting on the bean bag, watches Vikas leaving. One tear drop comes out from her eye and starts rolling on her cheek. She opens her diary, cross the word ‘ALL’ and continues writing...

LIFE IS ALL NOT ABOUT SOMEONE’S REMINDING PAST.

IT’S ALL ABOUT LIVING THE PRESENT!

13)INT.BED ROOM – NIGHT

Akash enters into the bed room. Vinita was waiting for him. Akash takes his shirt off and goes towards the bed to lie down and rest. Vinita holds his hand and pulls him near to her.

Akash’s naked back side shoulder clearly reveals the pink triangle (inside heart shape) tatu.

Vinita looks at his eyes.

VINITA

I’m sorry…!

but, you too know why I do behave

with you like this way.

Me too, like others,

Wanted a regular family,

Wanted to be a wife!

wanted, a normal husband,

who will be attracted to his wife,

will love her.

a straight man!
